A New Home, A Fresh Start: Mindful Transitions in Life and Business

We’re in the middle of a big move right now—our first home purchase (!!) and a shift to a totally new area of California. It’s exciting, overwhelming, and honestly, a little emotional.

As I’ve been packing, organizing, and managing the million little things that come with moving, I’ve been reflecting a lot on what it means to go through a big life transition—especially as a business owner, a parent, and a person who (like most of you reading this) is carrying a lot on her shoulders.

🗂️ Organized Systems Make Space for Calm

One thing I’ve been incredibly grateful for during this move is my past self.
Years ago, I made the effort to keep all of our family documents digital and organized—insurance policies, tax forms, IDs, pay stubs, even our dog's vet records (because you never know). When it came time to apply for a mortgage, get insurance set up, or answer those random but urgent questions, it all went so much smoother.

This is your nudge: if your digital life feels messy, take 20 minutes this week to clean up one folder. Future you will thank you—especially in a moment of chaos.

😮‍💨 Good Stress vs. Bad Stress? Your Body Doesn’t Know

I recently had a conversation with someone I consider a spiritual mentor, and she reminded me that our bodies don’t distinguish between “good” stress and “bad” stress—it’s all just stress. Even joyful, exciting things (like buying a home or growing your business) can take a toll if we don’t slow down and care for ourselves.

Lately, meditation has been my go-to reset button. It’s nothing fancy—just 10 minutes of quiet where I let my body release tension. I’ve also gone back to journaling with my trusty gratitude notebook, writing down the small wins, the unexpected good moments, and the little pieces of magic that show up between the big milestones.

If you’re in a season of change, I highly recommend it.

🚀 Growing a Business While Growing Personally

While my family life is shifting, so is DB5. We’ve been growing as an organization—new clients, new systems, new opportunities. It’s incredibly exciting (and a little nerve-wracking). Growth is amazing... but let’s be honest, it also comes with growing pains.

What’s helped me the most?
Transparent communication—especially with clients. I’ve found that when you work with the right people, they get it. They’re rooting for you as much as you’re rooting for them.

And yes, even as someone who preaches systems and organization, I still have to revisit things regularly. Every personal or professional “growth spurt” reveals a new area I can streamline, delegate, or improve. It’s never perfect, but that’s where the magic is.

💡Takeaway: Mindful Transitions Checklist

If you’re going through your own season of growth or change, here are a few things I recommend:

  • Organize one small part of your digital life (start with your insurance folder or tax docs!)

  • Pick a 10-minute mindfulness practice that helps you regulate your nervous system—meditation, stretching, journaling, etc.

  • Communicate openly with your clients or team—don’t wait for perfection.

  • Celebrate the in-between moments. They're just as important as the milestones.
