💬 Not All Financial Advice Is Meant for You — And That’s Okay

If you’ve spent any time scrolling Instagram, listening to podcasts, or sitting in on a webinar lately, you’ve probably heard at least one of these:

  • “You need five income streams to be successful.”

  • “Hire fast or you’ll stay stuck.”

  • “Raise your prices. Again.”

  • “If you’re not investing, you’re behind.”

It’s a lot.

And while I love that there’s so much information available to small business owners, I also want to offer a little permission slip:
You don’t have to take every piece of advice.
In fact, you shouldn’t.

🧭 Context Is Everything

When someone offers business advice, always ask yourself:

“Do they run a business like mine?”

Not every finance “guru” understands what it’s like to be a solopreneur with kids at home, a service-based business owner with a seasonal cycle, or a woman building her business during nap time and evenings.

Look at their business model, their stage of growth, and their industry. If it’s completely different from yours — their advice might not apply. And that’s okay.

🚨 Watch Out for One-Size-Fits-All Tips

“Everyone needs a team.”
“You should have a course by now.”
“Don’t bother with X, it’s outdated.”

These statements might be well-meaning — but they often come from people speaking to their own experience or audience, not yours.

I’ve seen these kinds of blanket tips cause business owners to second-guess themselves, jump into decisions too quickly, or feel “behind” when they’re actually right on track.

📊 Your Numbers Know the Truth

Before you adopt someone’s advice, pause and ask:

  • Does this align with my cash flow?

  • What will it do to my profit margin?

  • Can my budget actually support this move?

Good advice should support what’s actually possible in your business — not just what’s trending or what worked for someone else during their biggest launch month.

🧠 Gut Check + Data = Strong Decisions

You know your business better than anyone else. Your instincts matter.
But so do your numbers.

It’s not about ignoring your intuition — it’s about backing it up with real data. When you can look at your financials and make an informed choice, that’s when you start building sustainable momentum.

💡 What to Look For Instead

If you want guidance that actually serves your business, look for:

  • Advice from someone who understands your industry and size

  • Patterns of consistent results, not just one viral moment

  • Frameworks that invite you to think critically — not rules that box you in

Support that helps you personalize and adapt, not just copy
