🧠 The Hidden Mental Load of Being the “Everything Person” in Your Business (and What to Do About It)
Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get enough airtime in the entrepreneurial world—mental load.
When you’re the “everything person” in your business (and maybe even in your household), the sheer number of decisions, to-dos, and invisible responsibilities can sneak up on you. At some point, that load hits capacity… and you just stop in your tracks.
That happened to me in April.
And to be fair, it wasn’t because anything was going wrong.
It was because everything was going right.
🎉 Growth is Amazing… and Also A Lot
In April, Team DB5 onboarded six new clients. That’s incredible growth. But add that to tax season, our existing workload, and my own family life—it was a perfect recipe for overwhelm.
Even with all the systems, automations, and structures we’ve built… I found myself frozen. The question of “What do I do next?” felt impossible to answer.
So what did I do?
👯♀️ Step One: Talk It Out with My Team
I brought it to my team—who are truly amazing—and we worked through some of the bottlenecks together. Just being able to say out loud, “I’m overwhelmed and don’t know what to tackle first” was a huge step. Their support helped me go from “OMG, I’m drowning” to at least “Okay, I can see the path forward.”
🤖 Step Two: Let AI Help Me Sort the Chaos
Next, I did something that might surprise you:
I used ChatGPT like a mini business coach.
No, it’s not a full replacement for mentorship or strategy sessions, but in that moment, it was exactly what I needed. I fed it the mess in my brain—the deadlines, the projects, the client deliverables—and it helped me organize my thoughts and create a step-by-step action plan.
From there, I could finally act.
Some tasks got knocked out.
Some were delegated to my team.
And for a few clients, I simply reached out and said, “Hey, I need to adjust this timeline.”
🗣️ Kindness + Communication = Client Longevity
This part is big: I’ve learned that transparent communication is one of the most important ingredients for long-term client relationships. People understand if things shift—as long as you’re honest, kind, and clear.
Most of the time, your clients are amazing humans too (I know mine are 💛), and they’re cheering for you just as much as you’re cheering for them.
🏡 Life Outside of Work Still Happens
On top of all that, my husband and I were in the thick of buying our first home.
We were dealing with the VA loan process (if you know, you know—VA appraisals are no joke), plus prepping for the actual move. That meant organizing, purging, and packing a house while still running a business full-time.
So yeah… the mental load was real.
💡What Helped Me Reset
If you’re feeling like the “everything person” lately, here’s what helped me crawl out of the fog:
Say it out loud. Don’t hold the overwhelm inside. Talk to your team, your coach, your partner, or even a voice note to yourself.
Write it all down. Dump every task, concern, and “open tab” in your brain onto paper (or into a digital tool).
Ask for help. Whether it’s AI, your team, or a trusted friend—get support in prioritizing.
Overcommunicate. Let clients or collaborators know what’s shifting. They’ll appreciate your transparency.
Give yourself grace. Growth is beautiful and chaotic. Both can be true.
